Reflections for Detective Thomas Charles Williams, Jr.
I remember that day so well. I was the Victim Advocate assigned to North Hollywood Division when this senseless crime occurred. Tom was a great Detective and an all around great person. I had my favorites and he was one of them. During our grieving I had the good fortune to meet Tom's wonderful family. I have made a good life time friend in his wife Norma. Tom's family along with the entire LAPD family suffered a great loss.

He ended Thomas's life and left his wife & children without a husband & father.
None of which they had a choice in, and he also chose to commit the murder in front of the officers small son.
This man had a choices and should remain in jail.
A great family.

Dear Detective Williams: One who was involved in your murder is seeking his freedom by parole. Know my dear brother that many of us will lobby so that does not occur. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Unlike those who took you from us, you walked the earth to make it a better place. Peace and God's blessings to you and your survivors.

I have just watched the film based on Officer Mr Thomas C Williams life, and was left angry that a criminal took it upon himself to attempt to improve his odds of retaining 'his freedom' by killing the investigating officer, Mr Williams, handling his case. Somewhere in this film they mentioned 160 US Police Officers are killed which means three men a week killed on duty which is a lot of heartache for their families and neighbourhood. Two weeks ago we had the Boston Marathon bombing tragedy and another Police Officer shot, P O Mr Sean Collier, this officer was shot because 'the men who shot him wanted this Officers gun. 9-11 highlighted for many the job Police Officers face, and if it's any consolation quadrupled the publics admiration for your service and your brothers-in-arms 'the Fire Men', to Mrs Williams, and her son Ryan, may I pay my respects. From an ordinary citizen, not a Police Officer, 6500 miles away in England.

In 1978, I was an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. Officer Tom Williams was one of my training officers. He was an honorable, hard-working man devoted to doing his job and was a good police officer. On one of our patrols, he showed me a picture of him, his wife and daughter together. Tom was a proud and decent family man. I got out of the LAPD in 1979. In late 1985 I heard he was killed in front of his son by a coward who followed him from a courthouse. He didn't have a chance to draw his weapon. Good luck and rest in peace my friend, I still remember you on April 13, 2012.

I never met you Sir, but GOD in His infinite wisdom has placed your Legacy in my life.
I remember closely following the trial of the cowards that plotted your untimely demise, and wondering "what" of your family.
And then I met Ryan.
One sunny afternoon, as he recounted that tragic day to me, I was stunned and all I could do was mutter "That was you?"
And Ryan tearfully relpied, "Yes, that was me... I was that little boy"
Ryan and my Daughter have a child.
Her name is Josephine. She has your color hair, and is a beautiful, brilliant and lovable child with a very strong will.
Your Grandaughter calls me "grandpa" Sir, and I feel honored to be a part of her life.
And I have purposed in my heart, that I will Honor your memory, by making her her aware that she is a very special child because her real Grandpa is a Hero.

I brought it all back to me how my colleague and friend was shot down.It does not matter what part of this world you live in. Once you have a warrant card/police badge, you serve the Public with pride and Honor. Knowing its not self but others you protect.I am so proud to have worn the uniform of The Royal Ulster Constabulary.

Detective Williams - A few LAPD/LASD retirees gathered yesterday in Colorado Springs to have lunch and your wife, Norma, was among us. She matched us, story for story, with the funnier episodes of your career. As it was Veteren's Day, Norma reminded us of you Army service, too. Rest well, Sir, we're keeping watch while you sleep.

Every Halloween for the last 25 years, I say a prayer for your family as I remember you and how you lost your life protecting Ryan. First the tears flow, as I mourn one of my personal heroes. I have a very clear memory of watching your funeral on TV. Then I smile when I remember that trip to Disneyland and how you made me laugh the whole way there. You were as selfless and giving as any one man could be and I will always remember you for the rest for my life.
