Thank you for your military and law enforcement service. I was a Sergeant with the Kansas Highway Patrol supervising Troopers in Ellsworth Hand numerous contacts with Sheriff Ray Thomas and with the Ellsworth County Judge. I'm rather amazed that I never heard anything about your service or death during that time period. I read about your service in the Russell Newspaper with an article titled "The Way West". I am now retired. The next time I travel through Ellsworth I will make time to visit your grave in your honor.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 140th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
