Reflections for Patrolman William H. Welch
Patrolman Welch, it has been 101 years since you were taken from us. I grew up in Framingham, and because of the contacts I had with our school safety officer and a patrol officer who my part-time school bus driver I knew very early on in my life I wanted to be a police officer. That eventually led to a 34-year police career, half of those years as a Chief.
New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your 15 years of law enforcement service.

FRAMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT FACEBOOK POST 2/3/23
It is hard to believe that it has been a century since the passing of Framingham Patrolman William H. Welch. But today, February 3, 2023, marks the 100th anniversary of the End of Watch for this heroic officer. It was on this day in 1923 that Patrolman Welch was shot and killed by a suspicious person he was investigating at McGrath Square. He was a 15-year veteran who left behind a wife and three children. Memorialized by the street that now bears his name, we are reminded of Patrolman Welch’s sacrifice each time we enter our building at 1 William H. Welch Way. Today, as in every day, we honor his bravery and his memory. A memorial wreath is on display in our front lobby and will be later be placed at the gravesite to pay our respects. R.I.P.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 89th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Patrolman Welch, it's strange how people behave when facing the police. This individual who murdered you may have gotten a fine or maybe even a few months in prison for whatever he did, but he murdered a Police Officer in cold blood. I hope he's in hell.
Your sacrifice makes you a martyr; your life makes you a hero.
God Bless and may you continue to Rest in Peace, Brother.

1923 was quite awhile ago but the loss of a police officer is always difficult,
no matter how many years. We pray for the family and the terrible void that must have been left so many years ago.
Thank you Officer Welch for serving the citizens of Framingham.
