We Americans are not good at remembering our history. I was a Miamisburg Police Officer for 22 years. I retired as the Assistant Chief in 2002. We did not know about the sacrifice of Officer Weidner until his family brought it to the Department's attention in the mid-nineties. The Department then arranged for a plaque for Frank that now hangs in the municipal building concourse. We apologize to his family for the oversight and we honor his service and his sacrifice. We sincerely hope that he will not be forgotten again.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 89th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. It is unfortunate that corruption was at the root cause of your death.

Rest In Peace

I have looked up the history and any facts I could to honor this hero. I have a small display of him on my wall and often wear a memorial wrist band in his honor. His bravery makes me proud to be a part of this PD and to be an officer.

I often think about the supreme sacrifice you made so many years ago for our community. You have not been forgotten and your heroism is shared with each new officer when he or she begins their FTO training. Rest in peace my brother.

Officer Steven E. Gau
