Robert Wehagen was my grandfather, whom I never had the honor to know. Elaine (daughter) was my mother (deceased) and she loved him very much. His badge number was 969, and was a WWI vet. While still in uniform he was also part of the first actual traffic accident investigation squad. My grandmother (Eleanor) wasnt too happy with his appointment to the bureau, but not because she was not extremely proud of him, but because he often worked late and long hours on cases, allot of cold meals and my mother would miss him. Later as a young lady, my mother working at a downtown movie theater, was credited by the fbi with helping to break-up a big counterfeiting ring by stalling the suspects until the police arrived. Mom said she wished her dad (Robert) was still with her then as he would have been a very proud papa. Quite some time passed and my grandmother later remarried a wonderful, wonderful, irishman in Daniel O'rourke.

My Uncle, Robbie Wehagen is buried at Alger Cemetary located at: 16710 Bradgate Cleveland, OH 44111. He was a kind, gentle man. He is buried next to his wife & the Wehagen family. (Mother, father, sisters & brothers. We visit the Wehagen area of the cemetary often. His grandfather is also buried in the cemetary & served in the Civil War. His name is engraved in the Soldiers & Sailors Monument in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio.

Growing up, I've always wanted to be a police officer. I went 22 years not knowing I had any relatives that were officers. Then I came across my grandmothers maiden name while searching this page. Finding out I have a distant uncle who died in the line of duty, was one of the most inspiring things I've ever came across. Uncle Robert, I thank you for your service, and I will proudly represent our family by wearing the same badge you wore with pride, valor, and honor. I couldn't be more proud.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 75th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace
