Reflections for Police Officer Sunny Ma Lov

I lived next door to sunny and his family in Odessa, you would never meet a nicer group of people .His grandmother was always working in the garden . His mother and grandmother always offering me food. I have a few story to share if any of his family care to contact me. RIP Sunny I miss you.

Last night’s tragic death of another Dallas PD officer on Central Expressway brought back many memories surrounding your equally tragic passing. It was our honor to help support your family in the aftermath, and hope that it was at least the smallest help for you at the beginning of this long journey without Sunny.

Sunny worked for me when he was killed. I went to the scene, and later went to his home and notified his family.
It was the hardest thing I ever did in my entire tenure on the police department.

I'm just finding this article. I was there when this God awful incident happened. I had moved into the lane next over from the fast lane waiting to exit. I saw the car in my rear view coming up on me really fast. Officer Lov was about two car lengths from me in the fast lane settin down flares. As the car came nearer I realized they weren't stopping and the officer was at high risk. I was fixing to move over into fast lane and use my truck as a barrier between the car and Officer Sunny, thinking the truck would take the impact and the officer would have a chance to dive for cover. The car blew past me before I could. Officer Sunny was bent over placing a flare, looked up and saw car coming. He stood up as car hit him. The car hit the brakes right when he hit the officer. I have never witnessed anything like that in my life. I am so sorry for this family's loss. I have never forgotten that early morning. God bless ya'll.

Even though its been just over 27 years since I saw you last. I remember what a great person you were. So glad I was fortunate enough to have been able to spend time with you at the academy and at NE patrol.

Sunny Lov was my rookie and a very dear friend.
He inspires me to this day.
He had an incredible passion for his adopted homeland, believing in American exceptionalism as few native citizens could as he knew first hand how unique America is in human history. He served selflessly. He loved his family well. He dreamed of his children and grandchildren living the American dream in honor of the men and women who died in Southeast Asia to make it possible for such a blessed life. He wanted a home and a business to keep his family together.
He sacrificed so much to get his family to America.
He was a true mighty man of valor.

Sunny, I wish I had been there with you in November '90. Miss you, my dear friend.

You survived the killing fields of Cambodia, POW and refugee camps. You brought your family here to the United Stated for a better life. Your life, legacy, and example will live on with us forever. We will never forget.

Thank you for creating such a beautiful daughter inside and out. We had the pleasure to meet Kim and your son-in-law, Mitchell this past weekend. You would be very proud of the husband Kim chose. Know they both have many new sisters and brothers who will be there for them both.
