I had a conversation with my grandson about the kindest police officer I have ever known, Officer Lloyd Verrett, Sr. He wants to be a police officer one day. I went to Samuel J. Green jr. high school with Lloyd and Denise. I remember how he would come to school to pick Denise up after school, and how friendly he was. Always a kind word, concerned about our neighborhood...a true example of community policing. He was a wonderful man. We all loved him. Our nickname for Denise was "Denise First District". We were crushed when he was taken away from us. There wasn't a dry eye in our community. Teachers and students alike cried for days. Denise and Lloyd were never the same...and the pain on Lloyd's face is something I will never forget. From that day on, he walked with his head down, tears falling from his eyes. Before his father's death, he was outgoing and quite popular, not to mention handsome! All of the girls, including me had a huge crush on him. I didn't know he had passed. I'm willing to bet he never got over the loss of his beloved father. I wish Officers followed the strategies of Officer Verrett, true community servant. He is sorely missed.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 46th anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for solace for all those that call you beloved.

I am the youngest son of Olympian Audrey "Mickey" Patterson and childhood best friend of Llyod Verrett Jr. we lived around the corner from the Verretts on Milan St. in New Orleans, La. I was very saddened when Lloyd Jr's and Denise's father was killed. I believe he tried very hard to raise respectable and responsible children. I happened upon this site looking for Lloyd Jr. I am saddened to hear Lloyd Jr. has died as I have wondered what happened to him and Denise for all these years as well as Mrs. Verrett. I moved to California with my family in 1964. Lloyd Sr. I remember as a dedicated police officer and a strict disciplinarian. May God rest their souls. Contact: P.O.Box 420344 San Diego, Ca 92142

I am the son of GC Verrett. I am very distant from my dad's family. I grew up in the Desire Housing Projects and now reside in Tampa, Florida. I first met my Aunt Billie and my cousins, Lloyd Jr. and Denise at Uncle Lloyd's funeral services. I am sadden to hear that Lloyd Jr. past. My condolence to Aunt Billie, Denise, and Lloyd Jr's wife and children.

Officer Verrett lived near us and his son was a good kid. We were all very sad when they moved away shortly after the dad was killed. My mother worked at Flint Goodrich hospital, and I had passed the place where he was killed many times before. I hope that his family has had a good life and I will always remember them kindly.
