"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Ofc. Howard,
When I was a child growing up in Syracuse I remember that horrible day. My parents were watching the news and I could not believe my eyes. I asked them why someone would kill a police man and they told me that there are bad people out there that don't care about whats right. That day help me realize what I wanted to do with my life, and I am following that dream today. I am a Syracuse police officer now and I think about you everyday, especially the days I work the south side and pass that corner where it all happened. I feel that you helped me become who I am today and I thank you! Thank you Ofc. Howard and I promise I will be the best policeman I can be. Rest In Peace!

You would be so proud of your son. He is an amazing man and this world has been blessed to still have your legacy. Your death is still thought of constantly among members of your police department and the surrounding ones.

...I never knew Officer Howard, but I remember that tragic day so clearly.
And today, as we honor the many fallen from yet another tragic day, Officer Howard is in my thoughts as well...
A hero.
*Until we meet in heaven, may you rest in peace*

I find myself,
in between
that space where life stands still
things as I knew
no longer are
a quiet lull
in void of you
that lingers in my grieving days
as I learn to be...
in between
the no-mans-land where two worlds meet
death and life
a still retreat / a raging storm
still movement forward
standing still
is empty now
and struggle I to find my way
waiting, lingering
curling, stretching
standing still
closing
opening
making room for something new
my in between
and waiting now for life to come
midst this death
important time...this in between
to feel / to grieve and hold / be held
to heal / to say goodbye
and reach hello
and wait for what is next
..to enter in

If 15 years old is old enough to kill someone in cold blood, then 15 years old should also be old enough to face the death penalty... when will this society learn that age is nothing more than a number, but actions speak much louder!!
~~~Eternally and Always~~~
I didn't get to say goodbye
You're gone without a reason why
I've loved you all of my life
and then you weren't there
I didn't get a chance to say
how much I cared
I can't even remember the tears
that I cried
All I really wanted was to tell you
Goodbye
When I last saw you I felt I wouldn't
see you again
There was a distance between us
that I couldn't explain
You wouldn't look
at me but I could see the tears
in your eyes
If you knew then
You should have told me
Then I could have said
Goodbye
So many words left unspoken
So many hearts left so broken
My love for you is forever
And that will never die
We'll be together always
Our souls are one with God
Eternally and Always
I'll never have to say
Goodbye
~~~~~The Broken Chain~~~~~
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.~~In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.~~It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.~~You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.~~Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again.

~~~Touch The Sky --- Kiss The Sun~~~
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Let me see you smile…
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Soar up high just for a while.
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Let your soul be free…
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Love someone unconditionally.
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
Let me take your hand…
Touch the sky and kiss the sun,
In time you’ll understand.
