We graduated from the Academy together; got assigned to the 17th together; played on the same softball team. Sadly, I moved and was not able to attend his funeral.

I have no memory of Albert Valentino. But what i can say is that if it was not for this man I would not be here. Not because you risked your life but because you wanted a little girl. And you got me. Dad even though you never held me i want you to know that i hold you in my heart everyday. I know that you are watch over me always and now you watch over your granddaughter (my daughter). I hope i am making you proud and i hope you know how much i love you and how i wish you were here.

Al was my old partner when I was assigned to the 15th dist.It was alot of fun working with him and knowing the family.It was ashamed that he was taken so early.

I think about him often and how the family is doing. I remember the 69 Camaro that he loved so much. He will always be in my thoughts.

You are remembered today by a mother of a fallen officer. My son, Larry Lasater died when shot on April 23, 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers while serving with the Pittsburg, California Police Department.

Albert, your sacrifice is not forgotten. Rest in Peace. Your memory is honored and revered 21 years after your death and will continue to be. This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Albert gave to his community and the citizens of Philadelphia, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 23, 1989.

I was his and Gerri's best man at their wedding, my wife and I will always miss him. It has been 20 yrs since the awful incident, but we will never forget. "The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It has taken me 22 years to finally step up and thank you Officer Valentino for saving my life. I was 5 years old when you responded to the 911 call from my house. I had fallen through my backdoor impaling myself on the glass lacerating my side from the bottom of my rib cage to just below my shoulder and also in my arm pit. When you arrived on the scene I was bloody and my father holding onto me. You told him we couldn't wait for the "bus" and rushed us out of the house to Frankford Hospital Frankford Campus. On the way up I asked my Dad if I was going to die. You were just pulling up to the hospital and slammed on the brakes looked back at me looking me in the eyes saying "No one dies in my car kid". Next thing I know I was getting stiched up and home again. For the next couple weeks you continued to check up on me and my healing progress. I was in 4th grade when you passed due to that unfortunate turn of events. I can't thank you enough for saving my life and doing all that you could at a moments notice to save some kid you didn't even know. Someday I hope to meet you on the other side so that you may tell me you are proud of the life I made thanks to you. God bless you and your family.
