Your heroism and service is honored today, the 34th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I never got to meet you, and neither did your nephew, Eric. But from what he has told me about all he knows about you, you were an amazing person. I hope to meet you some day, on the streets of heaven where your whole family can reunite. God bless you! You will never be forgotten!

Uncle Al I cant even explain to anyone how much our family misses you. I cant believe it has been as many years as it has since you were killed. I can tell anyone that asks every detail of what happened when we got the call about your shooting. I was five years old and it was like it happened yesterday. So many things in life have happened as a result of your death. Some happy and some sad. You would be so proud of Laura and her children. She has become a beautiful person. Brian unfortunatly met his untimly death and he missed you so much. I hope that you see your sons in heaven and look forward to the day that I get to see you all again. We will always fight to make sure that the person that did this to you will stay behind bars. Our children will know what happened to you and the stories that you left behind. They will always look up to their grandfather or uncle with great pride. I love and miss you!!!!!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Its a shame that you can't be with us and that certain events led to your preventable death. I never got to meet you and I wish I could have because I would have been honored to have a family member help me become a CHP officer. Your murderer is behind bars and always will be 'til the day he dies. You fought hard under fire and stood proud under persecution. We all miss you.

It is so hard to believe it has been 31 years since your passing. Since we share the same birthday, February 9th, I think about you every year and continue to miss you. You were a great older cousin, a fantastic father, a cherished brother and a hero that died WAY too soon. May the angels in Heaven continue to watch over your family on earth and you in Heaven. God be with you Alfred until we meet again in Heaven. Love, GaleLynn

Hero! You never gave up the fight. Rest in peace, Sir! You are not forgotten.

You took several hits from a .357, and still were able to return fire and hit the suspect five times. We can't bring you back, and your family suffered a big loss; but you fought as a warrior not giving up. God bless your memory.

As a young Highway Patrol Officer(Just reporting to Los Banos) Al Turner was my break-in Officer. He was a family man with strong values and a great officer. I always reflect upon him when I travel that portion of I-5.
