To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 93rd anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

His oldest child Burton was my grand father. He looks so much like Officer Thompson .I was 8 when he died & remember him well. I also remember Great-Grandmother . She was a sweet lady who had a hard time after my great grand father was murdered.

It's great to see this memorial to my great grandfather. It's nice to see he gets national attention. We have newspaper articles about that fateful day to remind us of his sacrifice. He left a wife and ten children. It had to be hard for his surviors especially my great grandmother. I'm sure there were no death benefits or social security for her to live on. She lived another 29 years without him. Wayne, my father, was just 5 years old and did not remember him. We need to keep his memory alive.

My mother told me this story many times when I was young. She was born in 1919, so never met her grandpa Thompson. I never met my grandfather, Burton, he died in the 40's. I was born in 1951. I have seen pictures of grandpa Burton, he sure looks a lot like his father.

My mother was the youngest child and only daughter of Edward Thompson. A short few days before the death of her father, all of her brothers were home together for the first time in years, some returning from World War I service. My mother always said my grandmother drew a lot of comfort from knowing they'd had that last happy time together.
