This was my great grandfather on my mother's side. I remember the stories about this and how my Uncle Lacy Thomas would never speak of it. My grandmother was 21 at the time. I have been out to his grave on occasions when down that way. I stopped by the Baldwin PD and the Chief showed me the article he spoke of.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 91rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

This law officer still leaves a reputation that is still held in the dept.to this day and is remembered for his ultimate sacrifice to serve and protect. He is the only officer to die in the line of duty from my agency but we are aware that it change at any time and that it could be any one of us at any time.I remember my first day on the job and the chief showed me the article about Marshall Thomas and simply said don't let this be you.
