There are three types of people in this world: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. Some people prefer to believe that evil doesn't exist in the world and if it ever darkened their doorstep, they wouldn't know how to protect themselves. Those are the sheep. Then you've got predators, who use violence to prey on the weak. They're the wolves. And then there are those blessed with the gift of aggression, an overpowering need to protect the flock. These men are the rare breed who live to confront the wolf. They are the sheepdog. …You know who you are. You know your purpose.

Grandpa, I never got to know you. Everytime I think about that I feel like crying. I often wonder how our lives would be different if you were still with us. How I wish I could have known you. Grandma has told me stories about you and your time together. She has missed you terribly over these many years. I know mom thinks about you all the time as well.Even though she was only three days old when you left us. I must say I'm very proud that you are my grandfather. Just the other day one of our family memebers that I have not seen since I was a little girl said how much I looked like you.Grandma agreed and I was filled with pride. I pass by this picture of you (it hangs in my hallway)everyday. I take much pride in telling your three grandsons about you. How you were a motorcycle police officer and they think it is so cool.Mom and I attend both the city and state memorial services for you every year. It has become our tradition. We love and miss you everyday. Please continue to watch over me and the boys until we can meet for the first time.

Love your granddaughter.
