Reflections for Agent William Ross Stewart

I first met Bill in 1977 while working in the Mendocino County court system. Then I went to work for the DA's office where Bill, Doug and I wrote Search Warrants until the wee hours. He was a special friend until May 8, 1985. I miss him to this day. Love you forever buddy. Until we meet again. Rest in peace.

Oh Papa!
Where do I start?
Today I was not able to attend the ceremony honoring you.
I wish I was able to meet you, I hear you are one heck of a guy!
There is some advice I could use from you right now. Send me a sign

Bill was my partner for five years. We worked together as resident deputies out of Laytonville, Ca Bill was one of the most dedicated officers I ever worked with. He loved his daughters very much. RIP

Think of you so often, even as of recent I have met officers, agents and others who knew you and of you and the awesome person and agent you were. I love hearing stories of you now even more than ever, love hearing that others appreciated you and what you did also.

If anyone that knew my Dad has a story and would like to share with me I would love it hear about it, work or personal.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 27th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Papa Bill,

I was but a twinkle in my mother's eye the day you left this world. I hate that we never got to meet. Everything I hear about you from granny and momma's stories makes me think that you and I could have been two peas in a pod, and got along just great. It makes me sad, but I'm glad to know your in a better place. I couldn't be more proud of you. I'm taking a criminal behavior class and I'm having to do a paper over a crime. I decided to do it over you. While searching through information I found this page, and I just have to say wow. It makes me feel so good to hear all the wonderful things about you. Until another day....I love you papa!!

I THINK OF BILL OFTEN. HE AND MY FATHER WORKED TOGETHER FOR SEVERAL YEARS. HE WAS FAMILY ALONG WITH MANY OF THE OTHER OFFICERS, SO MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF THAT TIME IN MENDOCINO COUNTY. HE WAS A WONDERFUL MAN AND AN AWESOME FRIEND. I STILL ENJOY LISTENING TO MY DAD'S STORIES OF THE ADVENTURES THEY HAD, HE TALKS OF BILL/WILLY AND TEARS UP. BILL YOU ARE VERY MISSED, AND LOVED, YOU AND MOM HAVE A GREAT TIME CELEBRATING YOUR BIRTHDAYS TOGETHER. WE WILL SEE YOU WHEN ITS OUR TIME. Gone but Never Forgotten, a hero forever!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I was a dispatcher in Oklahoma for 7 years. Though I didn't know you personally I had a number of friends who worked undercover also. Its a dangerous and mostly thankless job, but I'm here to thank you now. Rest in Peace Agent Stewart. Hero's never die, they just get new assignments.
