Reflections for Police Officer Walter H. Stewart

Walter was my favorite Brother. Today out of eleven siblings there are only 2 remaining Myself; Marlene "Stewart" Wells and Gordon Stewart. Walter was #6 of 11 children, I am #10, and Gordon was #11 of 11. We were all born at home in Chandler AZ then moved to Phx about 1935. Our Mother Pearl "Brewster" stewart was also born in the Territory of Arizona in 1894. Mother nursed Walter through Smallpox, and Spinal Meningitis at our home (not at the same time) he then survived WWII as an Aerial Photographer. He had just been hired by the FBI and was getting ready to leave for Quantico when he was killed. He left a beautiful and wonderful wife and 2 year old son and a huge family that adored him. The drunk who killed him was given bond, walked out of the jail and left, he never stepped foot in court and got away with being drunk and leaving my Brother in the street to die. He got away with murder.

Thank you fr this updated memorial. My eight year old is doing a project this summer on his ancestors and this is his great great uncle. It was nice to be able to go online and show him a picture.

On February 19, 2010, our squad stood silently at 2000 East Washington and honored your memory. It has been fifty eight years to the day that you answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. While none of us had the privilege to know you, we will never forget and you will live on in our hearts.

Brother it has been 56 years since God tranfsfered you to his police department in His kingdom and by now you are a true veteran there. Know you are still missed and remembered here in Phoenix even though the department has multiplied many times. You would not beleive the size of our motor squads today but I know you would be proud of their accomplishments. Your name is forever inscrolled in our hearts in the purest of gold and we will always honor and respect your work here.

I REMEMBER UNCLE WALTER VERY WELL. HE CAME TO OUR HOME OFTEN AND OUR FAMILY AND HIS SHARED MANY HAPPY TIMES. HE WAS A DEVOTED POLICE OFFICER, WHO SERVED HIS COUNTRY IN WWII WITH HONOR, AND MADE ALL WHO KNEW HIM SO PROUD. HE IS SORELY MISSED BY ALL. IT IS A WONDERFUL TRIBUTE TO ALL OUR FALLEN OFFICERS TO BE HONORED AND REMEMBERED IN THIS WAY.

Uncle Walter,

Although my father, your nephew, was not even five at the time of your death, your legacy has been passed down to each generation. While we honor your service to Phoenix P.D. tomorrow at the site of your untimely death, we will be remembering a man who's love & dedication for his family and his job are still with us today.

Until we finally meet,

Your great-niece,
Kayla Lynn
