My Dad spent 5 years as a Railroad cop. He spent a total of about 10 years working for the New York Central. His years with the RR were the happiest of his life. Though I'll never know one way or the other, I like to think that the time spent on the B&O were special for Detective Starrett. I can only guess how special he was to the B&O.
Det. Starrett, you are a hero and will always be remembered as such. I hope your decendents honor your memory as they should.
The anniversary of your being murdered has just past. It was not a good Christmas for the Starrett family nor for the B&O in 1917.
God Bless and Rest in Peace sir, you are not forgotten, even after all these years.

Walt, I instruct a course in officer safety involving railroads. Your memory is honored by each officer in every class I teach. My mother's side of the family is from Mitchell, IN and I know of the freight yard where you left us. God bless.

Mr. Starratt, I know you have looked down from heaven more than once and smiled...having a son who was a Virginia State Trooper and Game Warden, then a Grandson who went into law enforcement as well. Your seeds of life grew and did well...you should be very very proud and I know you are.
God Bless you.
