Rest in peace Trooper Smith.

What a disgrace that the DRUNK driver didn’t serve any time. Hopefully the judge was recalled for that disgraceful decision. God bless you trooper and God bless your family. God bless your wife and your two children. I’m so sad that you lost your life to a DRUNK driver... and May the disgraceful judge always bear the pain for his terrible and disgraceful decision.

My Grandfather was Daniel Smith's uncle. I know that his family were shocked and grieved when he died. We never know how many other lives are affected by our own. R.I.P.

We never met, but through your daughter, my mother, I feel like I knew you. I wish I could have met you and I wish that you could have met your great-grand sons. I know you would have been proud of them. I was telling your oldest about you just yesterday. Josh is the smart, confident young man that every father hopes for. Alex is the adventurous, creative and outgoing boy everyone wants to be friends with. Jamie is the funny, sweet, caring kid you can't help but loving. I wish you could have met them, but I know you are watching them from heaven. I love you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 52nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Daddy,
Your memorial service was just beautiful at your gravesite on Saturday, May 8 and at the MHP HQs yesterday, May 10 (my birthday). Your youngest Grandaughter presented the rose and as long as we are able the tradition will continue. We love you as much or more than ever.

I never knew Trooper Smith. He passed away just before I was born but I am thankful to him because he had a daughter who became my best friend and has been for over 25 years now. Kay and I both went to work for the Highway Patrol after our Fathers, who were both in Law Enforcement passed away. kay and I worked over 25 years for MHP and retired. They say that Law Enforcement "gets in your blood" and it is true. In a way, that makes Kay and I sisters. We share the need and compassion to help civilians as well as other Officers as Trooper Smith was doing that very night The Lord called him home. Thank you Trooper Smith.

Daddy,
If I had but one wish, I would love to have one more day to spend with you. I was only 7 and it is so hard to remember everything about you. What I do remember is how much I loved you and how special I felt to be your little girl. If I spent that extra day with you, I would get in as many "I love yous" as possible before the day ended. I miss you so bad. God bless you and I will be with you one day.
