Reflections for Sergeant Ronald D. Slockett

I too remember that day, and will the rest of my days. I appreciate your reflection of my brothers death. I'm sure your task that day was a very difficult one. It has been a long time since his death but people remember that sad day still. Ronnie was number 4 of the children of 5. He was always a joy to be around. He had a huge sense of humor. He also loved the Lord. He was my backup when I had to qualify for the state. I was attending the University of Houston Law Enforcement Academy. I eventually got a job with Fort Bend County. Ronnie attended my graduation. I was so proud. I Love you brother

I was a Houston Police Officer with 4 years on the force, when Sergeant Slockett was shot and killed. At our 0600 hour rollcall, only several hours after the shooting, we were informed of the shooting. Sergeant Slockett's mother lived in the beat that I was assigned patrol that day. I was assigned to inform the family of his death, before they saw it on the news.

Needless to say, that was one assignment that I still recall vividly to this day.

I miss you so much little brother. We never got that picture done with the two us in uniform. Thank you for your patience the day I had to qualify with my weapon. It was so hot that day, but you backed me up, with no complaints. I know you know I lost John and Dede. Sleep well, I pray to see you someday. All my Love, Ginger

As a child, I remember you coming to my house in Sugar Land when my bike got stolen. I remember you telling me your name while you were writing up the report and I never forgot it. It was very sad to hear about your passing just a short time after. Here I am 28 years later and I would just like to say thank you for making Sugar Land such a great place to grow up and live. You will always be remembered.

I was not working the day Officer Slockett was killed. But I knew him well and had worked patrol with him. Being a former Marine, he faced his job with courage and dedication. I know he loved his wife and family. I can only visualize the how's and why's of the fatal traffic stop he made that day.

Hi. I was thinking about you all day today. How I never got to meet you in person. I heard all the stories of your childhood with my father and your sisters. I heard how you always traveled around the world with your dad. It really does stink that I never got to meet you. But some day we'll all join you. I love you Uncle Ronald. :)

It doesn't seem posible that 22 years have passed. I was just a kid trying to make a living working the graveyard at the Sugarland Shell station off 59 by the Country Club. The manager insisted that the lot be scrubbed every night and you would come by and check on me and mess with me. I remember letting you in the little boothe one night and you lit a cigar and filled the place up with smoke and then left laughing like hell. For the next week when I saw you coming I would run in the boothe and lock the door. You would lite a cigar and beat on the glass laughing and I would not let you in..we laughed and you always told me to be aware when I was outside cleaning. Oh.. how many times I have thought of you these past 22 years and how I wished you would have been wearing a vest that night.
Thank you for teaching me to be aware and for caring and keeping me safe. Most of all, thank you for those nightshift memories and for the laughter...hope there's plenty of cigars in heaven.
Rest in Peace Sgt.

Dear Brother,
Today, memories flooded my heart with thoughts of you and my two children and grand-son. It would have been John's 39th birthday (4-2-09). Five years after your passing, I lost my little girl, Dede in a car accident, she was only 19. Then five years after Dede, John took his life. On the 10th aniversary of John's death we lost his son my only grand-child Zackery, in a car accident. It has been years of loss and despair for me. Death seems to have become my friend, but I won't let him win. I keep on going in spite of the pain. I keep all these memories in tack so that you and the children continue to live in my heart. I recently had communication with your daughter. You probably already know that we have not been in touch with little Ronnie and Angela since your death. From all that I have heard and from the things that Angela has told me, (via email) they are really great kids, you would be so proud, Ronnie. I know that I am. It is heart breaking that our family has been cut apart at a time when we truly needed each other. But I know in my heart that we will all be together someday. I guess this is what keeps me going. I love you and I'll be seeing you......Love Ginger
