How I wish I had known you! How I appreciate you and all you stood for! You were my great grandfather and I learned about you from stories from your son, my grandfather who followed in your footsteps and was the prison warden in Miami. Thank you for your service and all you were to your loving family. Your son, my grandfather, was my hero as well.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundredth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. How wonderful that generations of your family can pay tribute to you on this site.

Rest In Peace.

Deputy Sheriff Slaughter,
On today, the 97th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Alachua County. It took another three months, but your murderers finally got the justice that they deserved.

THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID FOR ALL LAW ABIDING PEOPLE WAY BACK THEN. SEVERAL YEARS AGO THERE WAS A CEREMONY IN GAINSVILLE,FL HONORING HEROS LIKE YOU. YOU PROBABLY KNOW THAT YOU SON, CHARLES H. SLAUGHTER FOLLOWED IN YOUR FOOTSTEPS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT ABD IN MIAMI STARTED AS A PRISON GUARD ABOUT 1930 AND LATER BECAME WARDEN OF THE DADE COUNTY STOCKADE PRISON AND SERVED THERE 30+ YEARS. HE AND HIS WIFE OF OVER 50 YEARS THEN RETIRED AND MOVED BACK TO THEIR BIRTHPLACE , TRENTON,FL AND LIVED UNTIL HE DIED IN 1986. BESSIE LIVED ANOTHER 9 YEARS UNTIL 1995 AND THEN PASSED. WE STILL MISS THEM VERY MUCH AND ONE DAY LOOK FORWARD TO REUNITING AGAIN. THEY WERE THE BEST PARENTS ANY CHILD COULD HAVE.
