Rest in peace always knowing that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

Semper Fi...I read ODMP often and saw your entry. So sad that your life was taken at such a young age and in such a terrible manner. Giving your life in the line of duty is the ultimate sacrifice given by a law enforcement officer. You are remembered and you will be remembered. May God bless you and watch over your family. Rest In Peace ...

It's been almost 32 years. Your children who were 9 months and three at the time of your death have grown to be productive responsible adults with four grandchildren, one of whom is named after you. You are thought of and missed daily.

My friend, my mentor, my FTO..We shared some great times and talks together. We stuck together when I started in 1977 because we really weren't wanted in this "mens" fraternity. I learned to hold my head up and just do my job. Thanks Jackie for your friendship...Love you always.

Jackie, sorry you have additional officers to join you. I was married to an officer at the time you were killed. I remember the day of mourning in Hattiesburg, black tape on badges, the funeral etc. I'm saddened by the world events now and am fearful of the disrespect people have for our officers. Hopefully, there will not be additional people joining the ranks of fallen officers.

Jackie,
I'm on this page again. HPD has had another bad day. But, you are still remembered for your goodness. And I have met your son who has become a man. And still enjoy my friendship with your husband. I'm glad I knew you.

The Sherrill family are friends of mine, and Jackie's husband Charles (currently with Forrest County SO) informed me two or three years ago that Noah Wheeler, the killer, had died in the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

Sergeant Sherrill, i read about your murder in the book 'True Heroines' and your bravery will never be forgotten. The lowlife who shot you in the heart deserves the worst punishment, and should never see the light of day ever. my dad was a New York City policeman with the 102 precinct for nearly 40 years. Rest in peace, you are the true epitome of a heroine.

I didn't know Jackie, but am a friend of her husband, who is still an active LEO. She will never be forgotten, even for a single day, at least as long as either one of us remains on the green side of the grass. The perp is now dead and in hell.
RIP SGT Jackie Sherrill.
