Great Uncle Frederick Francis Shaumeyer was 30 when he met his untimely demise. He left behind a wife and three children; along with many other family members.
On February 10th, 1948, Officer Shaumeyer along with Officer Ralph Schleifer were dispatched to the Frisco Railroad Yard on a vehicle stuck on the tracks. Upon arrival, Officer Shaumeyer exited his vehicle and headed toward the vehicle. He was met by a Special Agent from the railroad. They both went to examine the vehicle. It was deternimed that the vehicle was located outside the city limits, but within the county. As Officer Shaumeyer was returning to his vehicle to notify the county authorities, he slipped on the railroad tracks and fell about 20 feet to the ice covered Turkey Creek. Officer Shaumeyer was taken to Providence Hospital. He died from his injuries 2 days later on February 12th, 1948
