Officer Scott,
Today marks 40 years since your untimely death. You will ALWAYS be remembered at the Clayton Police Department and your picture hangs in the front lobby of the police department for everyone to see.
As long as I am a Clayton Police Officer, any person that has the privilege to wear a Clayton Police uniform will know your story. They will hear how you fought like a warrior on the night you were attacked. They will also hear about your will to survive such a brutal attack.
Officer Scott you are an inspiration to us all. You fought the good fight and never gave up!

My wife is a Redding, CA native and spent several years living south of Redding in Walnut Creek while working at Oakhurst Country Club In Clayton. Clayton and Concord are beautiful areas with many wonderful people which goes to show you the inherent dangers of police work regardless of the area. Officer Scott, your heroic actions that day are part of a sacrifice and service that your LE brethren will never, ever forget and while we honor and mourn your untimely departure we also say thank you. Rest in peace always.

Roger was a good man and a dedicated cop with a great sense of honor and humor. I was working for the local Sheriffs office when Roger was shot and 1 year later I joined the Clayton police department. I enjoyed Rogers company on a few social occasions and was always marveled by his strength and resolve. He was hit twice at the time of the shooting, with one round shattering his left jaw bone. He was carrying the issued ammo of Glaser safety slugs in .357 The doctors were never able to remove all of the shot. His jaw was reconstructed and several replacement teeth were implanted. He suffered frequent headaches and was on prescribed morphine treatment for the unbearable pain. In fact, it was a malpractice action on the part of an ER room and two doctors who caused Rogers death by overdosing him in a single evening treatment with morphine.
Roger was not treated well by the Clayton police department after he was shot, in the subsequent years leading up to his death and in the many years after his death. The department did not memorialize Roger or have his name placed on the national memorial. That is until nearly 20 years later, when I, now the Clayton chief of police, remedied that injustice and nominated Roger for the national Peace Officers memorial in DC. His name can now be located on one of the many memorial panels along with his fellow brave, fallen, men and women. I have visited the memorial and have had the opportunity to once again spend a few moments with Roger and say a prayer for his eternal soul.

I never knew you... I was very young when this horrible night occurred for you. I grew up in Clayton all my life, as did my brother, Officer Troy Barboza he was with the Honolulu police department, but we sadly lost him in the line of duty in October of 1987.... Although tragedy has happened, I now have learned after seeing your post that Clayton does indeed has its share of heroes !!! May my brother be standing next to you helping watch over your family....
