Roger, Sgt. Ed Schaaf's son Ed was a Police officer in the 50,60's and early 70's in Saint Louis. He was our Neighbor on Carlsbad Drive and he told us of his fathers death during the tornado. Ed was also a Sergeant and passed away around 1974 from cancer.

I believe I knew his grandson Sgt. Schaaf of St. Louis. I was as a child friends with Sgt. Schaaf's son Ed. I would love to confirm this. The Sgt. Schaaf I knew was a real go to guy on the St. Louis police force in the 1950's and 60's.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 86th anniversary year of your death.
Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.
Phyllis Lasater Loya
mom of fallen Pittsburg (CA) officer Larry Lasater

Your story lives on in your family's memories and hearts. Time separates me from knowing you, but I can see my father in your eyes and I can remember the stories that have been shared. Thank you for your service, and thank you to all officers!
