May Officer Sauer rest in eternal peace. On Feb. 8, 1929, the murderer of Officer Sauer, David Bender, applied for parole for the fourth time. He was denied once again through the efforts of the Sauer family and many others.

I was told by my father Ret. Lt. John Griffin David Sauer before he passed that this was his grandfather. I never gave it a second thought until I saw a posting from July in 2017. I thought it was kind of amazing that someone I never knew existed is related on my Dad's side of the family. I echo the sentiments of Ms. Zaepfel and thank all the officers that dedicate themselves to our safety!

Officer Sauer was my great-grandfather on my mother's side. I, too, was told of his dying in the line of duty. Thanks to all officers who have given their lives in the line of duty!! Your bravery is unparalleled!! God bless you!!

Officer Sauer was my Great Grandfather. We grew up knowing the story of his heroism and I can't thank you all enough for keeping his memory alive.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 97th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.

Officer Sauer, Rest In Peace and may GOD BLESS YOU! The sentence the two who killed you was a total injustice. Given 18 years for killing a LEO is a SLAP in the face! You will NEVER be FORGOTTEN, Sir!!!!!!

We ask Thy blessings and eternal rest to all our brothers and sisters
Who have sacrificed their very lives in the performance of
their duties. Give their loved ones the peace and
Strength to bear the anguish of their loss. Remove all
resentment from their hearts, knowing that eternal
peace and rest will abide their departed loved ones
forever. This we beg, Thy name forever and ever,
Amen.
