Thanks for our long service in law enforcement, but perhaps just as important were your contributions as a solider to this great nation. You then returned to Korea, after surviving a POW camp in WWII. That says a lot about who you were. Thanks again for your service, and sacrifice and outstanding service to your community and to this great nation.

Not many days go by that I don't think of Mr. Joe. My father and I spent many a day on the water with Mr. Joe. He had came by our house to drink coffee with daddy ( Ben R. Wall) right before he got shot. Remember the night like it was yesterday. Daddy and Joe were fishing buddies and rode together when daddy was with the BRPD.

Uncle Joe, I still have the fly rod you gave me for my 14th birthday. Thank you for all the fun fishing and the Wild Turkey we didn't tell Nanny about. I see George Reilley "went fishing" too. I bet he missed you awful my son is 41 now and you would have rolled your eyes at that!!!!!!!!!! I still miss you and "Cotton Fields". It won't be long till I join you. I just found this site and am happy to leave my reflection for Mr. Joe. My Daddy, George Reily, was Mr. Joe's partner and friend. I'll never forget the night we got the call that Mr. Joe had been shot. It was April 16th, 1966, my baby sister Liz's 5th birthday. I was 13, but I remember it vividly. Mr. Joe was an amazing guy. He survived a German POW camp, then served in Korea. He came home, became a police officer, and rented a room from a very nice lady named Miss Addie. They eventually married and had a precious little girl named Emily, who Mr. Joe called "Ankles". She was just a little thing when Mr. Joe was shot. He hung on for a couple of months, but then succumbed to his wounds. I haven't seen Miss Addie or Emily in close to 50 years, but I have never forgotten them. My Daddy died in '78, but he never really got over Mr. Joe's death.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 46th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I also must thank you for your service to our country in WWII and Korea. Your patriotism is unparalled. Rest In Peace.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace.

Your life is an inspiration to me. You were a POW in World War 2 and then you served again with the military in Korea. That is incredable. And after all that you experienced in two wars, you continued on with your service as a police officer! May you rest in peace.
