Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Richard L. Rose
Deputy Sheriff Rose, rest in peace, so young and vibrant, honorable, keep watching over your entire family and police department. Terrible what happened to you!

As I'm watching the funeral service for Officer Bolton, I'm thinking about how much a family's life has been forever changed, just as our's was almost 27 years ago. Officer Bolton was someone's uncle, just as you were mine. I know my life changed forever because of your senseless death, and my heart hurts for those nieces and/or nephews that have been effected by another senseless act of violence. I'm also thinking about all you missed out on here on earth - not only did you not get to meet your daughter, but now you have 3 beautiful granddaughters who will never know their grandfather. And Reagan looks so much like you and her momma! I know you're watching down on all of us and smiling. I can't wait until the day we're all united again for eternity. I love you and miss you Uncle Bubba!

Thank you all for the stories and kind words about my dad! Daddy, I can't wait until the day we finally meet. You have missed so much since you left this world. My birth, my graduation, my wedding, and the births of your twin granddaughters... You will always be my hero and guardian angel! I love you.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.
Rest In Peace

I remember when we were in high school and we were moving into the new school. You and I were moving books for the library and we managed to bump the door with our cart adn rip out the new alarm system. We thought we were in so much trouble. The principal told that story to my kids about 20 years after it happened. Who would of thought that you would have been taken so early in life? Thank you for serving our county. I pledge to you that others are continuing the fight against crime for you and the other fallen heroes. May God bless your family and put a hedge of protection around your brother.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I didn't know he was your brother. I have heard the story of this shooting so many times, and I just didn't know that.
Richard, know that your brother has carried on the fight against drugs, and that he does the work of two deputies every day. He defines Honor, and I hope you would be proud of that.

Uncle Bubba,
You've had another Tennessee officer come to join you. He was fighting the war on drugs, just as you did. Daddy continues on fighting the war in Tipton County. Tell Nana I love her and miss her! I'll see you one day!

Ricky, We miss you and always will. Our lives have not been the same since you were so violently taken from us. You would be so proud of your big brother-he has taken up where you left off. Tell Mama hi for us-I know the two of you are having a good time up there.
