Reflections for Detective Clayton Robinson

Mr Robinson always stood out among the fathers at Englewood Manor Apartments off the Dan Ryan Expressway . He and his brother lived in the same building as did I with my family on the 6th floor. Always a word of encouragement with an assuring smile. I remember his sons and daughters , especially Debra . I remember the article in the newspaper mentioning her birthday and the surprise her dad had planned. A man taken much too soon and I count myself fortunate to have known him and his family.

Detective Robinson was my grandfather. I never got the chance to meet him because he was killed before I was born, but I was told he was an awesome man who was very loving. He was a great father and husband and he has surely been, and will continue to be, missed.

To the Robinson family, Mr. Robinson, Annette, Randy, Butch, and Debra, it's been way too many years. I remember how Mr. Robinson would come home and sit at the table while us kids would play. I also remember the first time he was ever hurt in the line of duty and how he would exercise his hurt hand and I would ask him questions to which he would always give me a straight answer. He actually was a hero to me after my father. I missed him and was so very saddened by his death. RIP Mr. Robinson and God bless you and the Robinson family; wherever they may be.

DEAR DET.ROBINSON,
MY NAME IS TIM KUCHARSKI. IT SEEMS THAT I GREW UP KNOWING THE STORY OF HOW YOU WERE TAKEN FROM YOUR FAMILY. MY MOM'S FIRST HUSBAND WAS JOHN TUCKER AND WAS KILLED IN OCT 1968. I REMEMBER LOOKING AT YOUR PHOTO IN POLICE STAR MAGAZINE AND WONDERING HOW IT WAS POSSIBLE HOW 2 MEN ALMOST THE SAME AGE COULD MEET THEIR FATE IN SUCH A VIOLENT MANNER. BOTH MEN STOOD THEIR GROUND AGAINST 2 USELESS PEOPLE AND 2 FAMILIES WERE CHANGED FOREVER.
I WONDERED ABOUT YOUR FAMILY AND HOW THEY COPED
JUST LIKE I WONDERED HOW MY FAMILY DID. I HOPE YOUR FAMILY IS DOING WELL CONSIDERING AND HOPE THAT IF THEY EVER NEED ANYTHING THEY WILL CONTACT ME IN THE 012TH DISTRICT. GOD BLEES THE ROBINSON FAMILY.

As noted on previous posts here, the area you covered was pretty tough in those days. There were alot of folks gunning for the police in those days. Your service to that community and your attempt to apprehend a criminal proves your dedication. You will never be forgotten.

Clayton is a hero and we do not forsake his memory or the sacrifice of his family! The area he was killed in was Carbrini Green and you had to be a tough cop to make it there in the late 60's. In fact you had to be a dedicated, tough and courageous cop to make it anywhere in Chicago during the days of the late 60's and early 70's as this web site deomstrates. Parts of the city were literally at war with itself then and as we think about those days, it was the CPD that held the city together during the riots and the convention-that is the legacy of Robinson, Severin, Tucker, Kaner to name a few and all the cops from that era. As most of us from those days retire, we still remember them when we get together and we don't forget.
