Samuel Roberts is my paternal grandmother's grandfather, which makes him my great-great grandfather. I have numerous newpaper articles regarding his death and the details surrounding it, as well as the subsequent posse hunt and arrest of the perpetrators. My grandmother's name was Opal, and her father (Samuel's son) was named Elgin Roberts. The photo above, which I submitted, the original is in the hands of a relative and is accompanied by the original pardon given to Samuel Roberts for killing a man in the line of duty. If anyone is interested in copies of the newpaper clippings that I have you can email me at [email protected]. I'd be happy to share what I have.

Didn't know my great grandfather but my 93 year old mother, M. Juanita Roberts Thomas, talks about her grandfather often.
Somebody keeps changing part of his name. His birth name was either Sam James Roberts or James Sam Roberts. My mother could not remember which was first. Someone keeps adding Elgin as his middle name. Elgin is NOT accurate. 05/29/2017

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and thirteenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
