David began his career with the Paris Police department a few years before I did but I remember him from high school, he was a very kind soul. I now teach criminal justice at our high school alma mater, I often tell my students of his sacrifice for our community and will do so this week two days ahead of the 34th anniversary of David’s death.

David and I were class mates in the academy in Sulphur Springs. What a great man. I remember us playing basket ball against each other and I split his lip open with my elbow . He didn't even get upset at me. Very kind individual and Heaven gained a great Angel. I recently drove through Paris on the way to the National Sheriff Conference in New Orleans and was thinking about the sacrifice David and his family gave to the community .

I was an officer with Sulphur Springs and attended the police academy with David. He was a great guy. I remember this day like it was yesterday. He was the first officer that I knew personally, that paid the ultimate sacrifice. Always a hero. Your classmates love you David. I tear up every time I pass the place he died doing his job. I remember the funeral procession...I will never forget. God bless all of you!

I was the 'yankee' from St.Paul,Mn that came down to Paris to play baseball for Coach Click & PJC so many years ago.

My room mate was from Hobbs New Mexico and we were about the only ones who couldn't go home for weekends or short holidays. Dave and his family were great friends to us. We ate many meals with him and his family and he was a true friend. And boy Dave could really hit a baseball. When he connected, he could crush a baseball.

What a great friend and teammate he was. He's a hero and will never be forgotten.

David and I were hired 1 week apart and went to the academy together. We were friends both on and off the job. We worked together and fished and hunted together. His wife was 6 months pregnant when he died in the line of duty. He was so proud and so excited about becoming a father. David is a Hero to me even 30 years later. Once again my friend, I salute you. Thank you for your service and our friendship. We still miss you, but know where you are and look forward to when we see you again.

I played baseball w David at Paris Jr College. He was a big guy and full of life. He was a power hitter and we
Called him Mongo! He told us he wanted to be a state trooper. I was shocked when I heard the strong and just stopped by the memorial. We miss you Dave.

My anniversary is September 21, 1985. I lived in the apartments behind where David was shot. Actually we were leaving to go get married and heard the shots. We thought it was a car backfireing. We drove by but didnt know what had happened until we were stopped at the river. When we got home we found out what happened. It was a shock. We lived acroas the street from David and played with him when we were kids. My husband played football with him. Every anniversary I take a minute to remember him. I saw his son at the hospital when we were having twins being born a while back. David you would be so proud of him. He turned out to be a wonderful man. Rest in peace.

As I drove through Paris, TX on vacation a few years back, I saw the monument to David Roberts. I was astounded that I had received my commission as a police officer on the day of your David Roberts' death. It seemed to be a deja-vu moment, truly so, for me. We read and re-read the information on the monument and I wept. From now on when I think of Paris, Texas, I think of this monument and the untimely death to a brother in blue, doing his duty in the line of duty, wearing a badge. Rest in peace brother.
