Reflections for Police Officer Robert M. Rigdon

Officer Rigdon, on this actual 162nd anniversary of your heroic death I’d like to reiterate my previous reflection and say that your sacrifice is always remembered by your law enforcement brethren.

Between being killed for retaliation for just doing the right thing and backing your fellow LE and being gunned down at home it doesn't get much worse. Rest in peace and know that no passage of time will ever erase your service and sacrifice.

I recently read a book, "The Hanging Of Henry Gambrill" which detailed your murder and the murder of Officer Benton. As you rest in heaven, please know that you are not forgotten.

We ask Thy blessings and eternal rest to all our brothers and sisters
Who have sacrificed their very lives in the performance of
their duties. Give their loved ones the peace and
Strength to bear the anguish of their loss. Remove all
resentment from their hearts, knowing that eternal
peace and rest will abide their departed loved ones
forever. This we beg, Thy name forever and ever,
Amen.

Your story was mentioned in an article written by Craig Floyd with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Thank you for your years of service and dedication to your job.

Officer Rigdon stood up for his principles and brought the murderer of a fellow Police Officer to justice. Unfortunately he paid for his dedication with his life. Rest in Peace Officer Rigdon.

When I start my tour of duty God,
wherever crime may be
as I walk the darkened streets alone
let me be close to thee
Please give me understanding
with both the young and old
let me listen with attention
until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgement
in a rash or callous way
but let me hold my patience let
each man have his say.

Lord, if some dark and dreary night
I must give my life
With your everlasting love
protect my children and my wife
