I think these two officers worked for my dad. I believe my dad was their Sargent at the time. My dad had two officers ambushed in one of the housing projects and the timing would be about the same. RIP to Chicago’s best.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 41rst anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I am glad that enough people in Chicago remembered in recent yeaars who their true heroes are.

It may have been 41 years since that fateful night but your ultimate sacrifice and that of P/O GILHOOLY will never be forgotten. On that night you responded to a call to aid fellow officers who had been shot. A true professional.

On 13 NOV 10 at the same hour in which you were struck down I will visit the location you were slain, say a prayer and maybe even light a candle. God bless you.

You have not been forgotten. The honorary street name never came about in the City, they just moved it to the suburbs and did it. At least the City where you served did not honor the individual or his organization that took your life and that of your partner. You will never be forgotten. Your name and those of over 500 other City officers are now honored on the memorial on the Lake front which all of you deserve. You are a true hero.

first of all, may you rest in peace. i believe strongly that when a police officer dies or gets killed, a piece of us goes with him because it could have been any one of us. I cant believe the insult and injustice that this alderperson is trying to do to you and the city as a whole. I believe that the woman is sending out the wrong signal by choosing to put a street sign sign for a police killer. i can think of better positive role models everyone in the african american community can be proud of. why not a doctor, an astronat etc. as an alderwoman, you are putting violence on a pedestal, and i thought that curbing violence and keeping your community safe was your number one priority. What will be next, sponsoring a tookie williams street sign as well. i'll tell you what, i wouldn't vote for you anymore, and if we have to start our own campaign to get rid of people like you, then thats the plan. hope that woman has a job next year, because i sure as hell wouldn't give her one.

I am not for the the street to be named after a cop killer. He may not have killed a cop with his own two hands, he killed them with his words. Others lisen to you when you speak, so you are responseable for their actions as well as your own.
I didn't know Officer Rappaport until this morning, but before then I was not for that street to be named after the young black panther.
So people can't say this is a racist person talking, I am young black woman,age 27.

Officer Rappaport, you have not been forgotten. Now that an Alderwoman is attempting to have a street named after one of the now deceased Black Panther leaders, I find it discusting that this is an individual they want to have young children look up to as a hero. Officer Rappaport, you are the HERO. I will fight this proposal as will many others in Chicago. You have not been forgotten.

The following is a letter sent to Chicago City Councilwoman Madeline Haithcock who has sponsored an ordinance to name a city street "in honor" of a former chairman of the Black Panthers who advocated murdering police officers.

King County, in Seattle Washington just announced today that they will adorn all county seals, flags, papers, patches and badges with the image of Martin Luther King... I personally am proud to wear the image of my childhood "HERO" on my uniform and badge.

I am however shocked and appauled that you sponsored an ordinance to name a city street "in honor" of a former chairman of the Black Panthers who advocated murdering police officers. Members of the radical group were responsbible for the murders of 5 law enforcement officers, including 2 Chicago officers during his chairmanship.

I can think of the families of the murdered officers (Frank Rappaport ~ John Gilhooly ~ Glenn Smith ~ Kenneth Patrick ~ Ricky Kinchen), and how horrified they might feel to see this supposed honor. Please think of "all" involved before moving on with this idea.
