Ira Raney was my great grandfather on my father, William Robert Raney's side. My mother, Bonny Montero, retired from HPD. Both my husband and I retired from HPD, and now my daughter, Ira's great great granddaughter, Elizabeth Lauren Scheibe Woodall and her husband are HPD officers serving the City of Houston. Ira's legacy of a life of service lives on. Elizabeth recently stood in for Ira during the 2021 Houston Police Memorial Ceremony, during the last roll call of all fallen officers. When Ira's name was called and Elizabeth stepped forward to represent him and our family, it was a very emotional moment for our family. Ira, thank-you for your services and God bless all those who helped your wife, my great grandmother, Pearl Hill Raney, take care of the eight children she was left to raise.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 93rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I live in Northern California and last year our Bay Area was rocked by the murder of four officers from Oakland PD.
I was unaware of this bloody day in the history of your department. These killings must have devastated your department and community, and of course, your family. I am sure you are proud that your family continues your legacy of protecting and serving.
Rest In Peace.
