Reflections for Constable George J. Prescott
Officer Prescott, this week the officers of the Medford Police Department remember your sacrifice and thank you for your service to the people of this city. Your work made Medford a better place to live. To continue your work I bring all of my recruit officers to your grave site to pay their respects to help them understand the gravity and responsibility of their new career. As we are on the dawn of a new police department, many of of have requested that it bear your name to remind each of us everyday. Thank you for your service, then and now.

George Prescott knew his life was at risk the day he approached the home of the cowardly criminal he was sent to arrest. He went forward anyway and his courage is still an example to us 80 years later.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 79th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice that Officer Prescott made for the citizens of Medford. He has a city park in his name, and we do not have a promotion or retirement event without mentioning his sacrifice, as well as the sacrifice of others.
Rest in peace Officer Prescott, and we all thank you for your service.

Like so many of us, you did your job day in and day out trying to make a difference in the world. It took just a second for a hateful individual to take you from your family. It happened many years ago but to us in law enforcement it was like yesterday. God bless your memory.
A law enforcement brother.
