I just recently discovered the circumstances sorrounding Patrolman Potter's passing. I always knew it was a drowning as that's all the information i was given 15 years ago. That it involved his family i did not know and left me pondering much about who Charles D. Potter was. I was the last officer to wear his shield before voluntarily surrendering it at the Department's request. I did so, without hesitation. I was glad to find out the NYPD would be placing our shield on display at their museum, and in doing so giving Patrolman Charled D. Potter the honor that had been due to a fallen officer. At the same time i hope that i have honored Patrolman Potter's memory during my time in service, and by never tarnishing the shield(s).

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 92nd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
How your family must have mourned your death, but every parent understands and admires your selflessness.

A school, park or government entity ought to be name after yourself, it is the least we owe to heroes.

This one really touched me. It's a pitty that such a hero should have only 1 other reflection. You Sir were a true hero & a real father.
