Rest in peace Sheriff Peeler.

When Sheriff Peeler lay dying, he asked to speak to the judge who would try the man who shot him. The judge came to his bedside. Sheriff Peeler asked the judge not to try the shooter for murder. He asserted that the defendant did not intend to kill nor shoot him. The judge granted Sheriff Peeler's wish. The shooter was tried for a lesser charge and imprisoned.
This comes from the family of whom I am a direct descendant. Sheriff Peeler was my great grandfather.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 115th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 111 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

mother of fallen officer Larry Lasater
