Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Elmer Marion "Okie" Parmer

I wish a lot of today's law enforcement could have met you and saw how law enforcement and justice is to be delivered. Thanks Okie for being an inspiration for me.

This week we remember the the tragic death of Deputy Okie Parmer, an officer who set an example of what fair, imparcial and just law enforcement should be. Though just in grade school at the time of Okie's death, I remember him always having time to waive or speak to young people and provide help if needed. I feel certain, he was one of the reasons I chose a career in law enforcement. I will definitely remember him in my thoughts and prayers this week.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 53rd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.
