Reflections for Deputy Marshal Ronald Alfred Parker
Loved going to this park as a child and also a young adult, I never knew the story of Ron Parker until I met his wife at our hotel. We need a picture and a plaque at the park so others like me don't go 40 years not knowing the story behind the park's namesake. Rest in Peace Deputy Marshal Parker and thank you for your service. Sir, I received this letter from the Florida Parole Board: I don't think the suspect POS will ever come close to getting out as his parole date is 2477. Thank you so much for your service brother of the badge.
Dear Mr. Reed:
Thank you for your input. I will place your letter in the file for the Commissioners review prior
to them voting the case, This case will be heard by the Commission on December 5, 2O12 for a
subsequent hearing. The offenders presumptive parole date currenfly stands at March 29,
2477. The consideration at this hearing is not whether the offender should be paroled but
rather whether the Commission should reduce, extend or make no change to the offenders
March 29, 2477 presumptive parole date.
The parole examiner that interviewed this offender recommended that the Commission make no
change to the offenders presumptive parole date due to his lack of participation in any
programs. The examiner recommended that the case be reviewed again by the Commission in
seven years. The Commission has the discretion to set the next interview as far away as seven
years in a murder case.
Keep in mind that parole cannot be considered until we get to within 3 months of an offenders
presumptive parole date.

This was my first LINE OF DUTY FUNERAL I ATTENED. I was at the time a Captain for the FLAGLER BEACH POLICE DEPT. The death of an officer became realality. My prior 8 years of service did not preparel me for this. I was friends with Sgt Wayne Tanner St. John County Sheriffs Dept. He was one of the officers who shot the suspect. Over the years I would attend one to many LOD services. Rest in peace Ron.

I have been viewing the ODMP for quite awhile now, but I have never written a reflection on any page. (Guess I just don't feel quite worthy). Well, now is the time. Rest in Peace Deputy Parker. I am not an officer, but did work at a Police Station in Pennsylvania and Love and RESPECT the officers who are brave enough to protect all of us. You have got to be kidding me, this murderer is a maniac; how in the world can he possibly come up for parole? The death penalty is way to humane for animals such as these, he should spend the rest of his days in misery and NEVER, EVER see the LIGHT or feel the warmth of day that our father in heaven has bestowed upon our HEROES IN BLUE and the rest of us law abiding citizens.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

We just celebrated the 28 anniversary of Ron's death this past January, today was the memorial service, held at Ron Parker Recreation Park at St. Augustine Beach, Florida. I was a young Deputy Sheriff working with Ron in 1975, and had just gone off duty a hour before he was murdered.
Ron's death is still an emotional time for his family and the Police Communities in our County. Chief's and the Sheriff for our area were in attendance, as was Ron's widow Brenda, Ron's two sisters, Linda and Bonnie. Old friends came to remember Ron and share stories with the family. I don't know how much the family is aware that they give us the strength to pay tribute to Ron, and to remind us to be vigilant in our chosen profession.
Ron will be remembered as long as any police officer in St. Johns County wears a badge, it's been our job to teach the younger ones the story and the lessons we have learned.
Ron's family and a delegation of county police officers went to the state capital on April 30th to ask the Parole Board not to consider a parole for Ron's killer until his presumptive parole date of 2476. The board agreed with the family and the community.
