Reflections for Wildlife Officer Margaret E. "Peggy" Park

Peggy's eternal soul has been at peace, surrounded by Love since 13 DEC 84.

Her murder in the line of duty will always remind us of her bravery AND of the fragility of life. God bless her family members and know that her life is remembered and her ultimate sacrifice is acknowledged, respectfully.

Today, her murder was finally avenged through the legal execution of her murderer.

Martin Grossman, who murdered Peggy Park, was finally executed on 02/16/2010. He was lucky enough to get the needle, which was much more humane than what he and his friend did to Peggy...

Finally, just is served on Martin Grossman.

R.I.P. Officer Park. May your soul now rest. Godspeed...

I was 18 yoa and lived not to far from Where you paid the ultimate sacrafice. Several years later I went to the Police academy. When I was hired by Indian Shores I had the pleasure of running into several of your coworkers. They all had fond memories of you. When I attended several crime scene classes, I was taught by the investigators whom had put away your killer (Martin Grossman). They used your encounter as training. I'm sure it has saved many lives. I just want to say you have not been forgotten. Feb 16, 2010 Mr Martin Grossman ended his deathrow time and died by lethel injection. Your mother and sister were there and for the first time they heard Mr Grossman say he was sorry. May your soul rest in peace as justice has finally been served.

The case where Officer Park lost her life was presented in a crime scene class I attended many years ago in Florida. The circumstances of the case have remained with me over the years. Officer Park's killer was finally put to death tonight. I hope this will help bring some closure to her family and friends.

I am so thankful justice was served today. I attended the get together today at the state prison with her fellow wildlife officers. They had so many wonderful stories to tell about her. The thing I learned was that she was very passionate about her job. May she rest in peace.

I was Peggy´s back-up at times, working in North County or Safety Harbor. How well I remember her call for help that fateful night. I headed toward the area where we thought Peggy was but another deputy got to the scene first The night of the apprehension of the killer I was called upon to take the Latent Examiner to Pasco County. I put the cuffs on the suspect and brought him back to Pinellas County. There was a deep sense of frustration and loss. Such a beautiful young life full of promise. We think of Peggy often and trust that God has given special comfort to the family over these devastating and difficult years.

On the 23rd anniversary of Officer Park's death, we honored her service in our patrol briefing by reading her entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Officer Park is not forgotten.

The two that did this will not be forgotten either. They both deserve the death penalty, juvenile or not. There is a special place in hell for both of them and they have made their reservation! Officer Peggy Park is seing the sights of heaven that neither of those cowards will will ever see.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Although I never had the privalege to serve with Peggy, I was honored and blessed to spend the past 24 hours with her special family at her memorial today. It has been 23 years and her light still shines bright. Through them I felt her passion to serve, her passion for life, and her pasison for the wildlife and the outdoors. It is Officers like Peggy Park and her wonderful family that are an inspiration for us all to follow. I would have been honored to serve alongside Officer Park. It was an honor to be present at her memorial today. God bless Peggy and her family.
