Reflections for Patrolman Edward J. O'Leary

Yesterday was the 66th Anniversary of my father's death. Not a day goes by that we don't think of him. He had a wonderful smile and enjoyed life. I wished I had been old enough to have heard his stories and thoughts. Also, yesterday the NYC PBA and the 34th Precinct honored my father with a beautiful memorial service. Special thanks to Kevin Murphy of the PBA for all his hard work and efforts. It is heartwarming to know that his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his brothers and sisters.

My father died 62 years ago today. Today we remember his loss and celebrate his life. Very special thanks to the NYPD 34th Precinct, the Officer Down Memorial site, the NYPD Angels and Sgt. Brenda Graham NYPD Transit Bureau K9 Division who gave her partner my father's name - my father's memory lives on. May God bless all our heroes who continue to serve us and may those heroes who have left us rest in peace.

Our family is very grateful for the Officer Down Memorial Site and we wish to thank Chris Cosgriff, ODMP Founder and all those who have posted not only on our father's page but the pages of all his brothers and sisters lost in the line of duty. It is heartwarming to know that these heroes will never be forgotten. Our father died over 59 years ago and there is never a day that goes by that we do not feel his loss. Thank you.

Edward was a good friend of my fathers also an NYPD officer. I knew him a little as I was 10 years old at the time. My father was heart broken but helped the family for quite some time afterwards. He was a friendly man and I am sure he is in a better place.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 56th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I said a little prayer today for Patrolman O'Leary and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.
