Reflections for Patrolman Roderick Donald O'Connor
Roderick Donald O'Connor was my father. He died before my third birthday, but I remember the toy fire truck he gave me the day before his accident and a trip to the beach two days before that. My relatives have told me that he was very much like me (which I take as a compliment!). I wish I could have known him better. My mother re-married another motorcycle officer several years later and he adopted me and my sister. He was the father who raised and loved me, but I will always miss my birth father.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 63rd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your family and friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

Maureen O/A My son linked me up to this web site. Your father(Doc) O'Conner grew up together on 74th St. In Bay Ridge B'klyn. I went into the Navy June 1941 and theNYPD June 1951. Your father and I were childhood buddies. There isn't enough room in this reflection to relate the memories I have of your 1st DAD. In 1954 ?? 1 had the pleasure to work

My brother Rod sent me the link for this site. I was too small to remember what happened at the time of the accident, but we have never forgotten our father. We were lucky, subsequently, to have been brought up by another wonderful policeman, Norman Andersson, who married our mother in 1952. We are both touched and grateful to whoever took care of this memorial. Rod mentioned our father's dimples at his daughter's wedding, they've been passed on and remind us of him.

I am Roderick O'Connor's son. I was just shy of my third birthday when my father died. I cherish two memories of him -- going to the beach with him, my mother and my sister a few days before his accident, and a toy fire truck he gave me the day before his accident. I often look at photos and home movies of him that my grandfather took in the late 1940's. I just came across this website and would like to thank all of the officers who have posted memorials for my father.

I said a little prayer today for Patrolman O'Connor and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.
