My great-grandfather Edward J. Mealy passed away while still a working as a Lieutenant in Brookline in 1931 after 48 years of service. He was unfortunately involved in both incidents where Brookline officers was killed in the line of duty. In the case of Officer O'Brien, he was the Lieutenant in charge who sent out the alert for the two suspects. 37 years earlier, he was one of the first officers on scene at the murder of Officer McMurray. RIP to all who serve, and especially to Officer O'Brien.
