To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 89th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I met Chief O'Brien's son, who was quite elderly at the time. I recognized the lifetime of pain the son had endured with the loss of his father. I also saw the resentment of the lack of recognition for his father. I served as Chief of Police when our police department was renamed "The David O'Brien Public Safety Building" and a memorial built to him. During the ceremony I saw the wounds of time heal in the son. The son is now gone and reunited with his father. I hope these small acts make both of them proud.

When I started in law enforcement I was in the Canton Police Station named in your honor. I wondered about the officer it was named for and finally learned the story. Your were a hero, Chief. Rest in Peace brother
