Reflections for Patrolman Mitchell L. Nutter

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 42nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. Like you, our community honored my son with a park named after him and I share your daughter's feelings about being honored in that way.

Time never dimishes respect, not even 42 years.

Rest In Peace

I had the special chance to visit my father's park probably 38 years after the dedication. That was the last time I was there. I was very happy to see how well kept the park is. I was over come with emotion to see my now 24 yr old daughter get on one of the swings there. To think she was swinging at a park named for the grandfather she never got to meet. He is still missed very much. I thank all who still remember him!

Mitchell L. Nutter Park is at the intersection of Dove Dr. & Pelican Lane in Orlando. I grew up on Dove Dr. I was 13 yrs old in 1968. The park was always there. A pleasant place that let us know police officers die in the line of duty.
Families visit. Children still play there. They know why Officer Nutter is remembered.
Another instance of a police officer having a positive effect on people he never even met.

Mitch and I were assigned to the same outfit in the Air Force in Misawa, Japan. I am sure he was a fine police officer and good man.

I was stationed at Misawa, Japan with Mitchell Nutter during the very early 1960's.

He was a helluva nice guy and a great friend. While most of us were drinking whiskey and chasing women, Mitchell lived a very quiet life, often talking about his wife. He really loved his wife and could not wait to be reunited with her.

I was deeply saddened to hear of his untimely passing. Truly one of the "good guys". R.I.P. old friend, you will always be remembered.

A Thankful Citizen

February 10, 2006

I WAS ON-DUTY THE NIGHT THAT MITCH GOT SHOT AND RESPONDED TO THE CALL ALONG WITH JOHN DUKE. JOHN AND I WERE IN THE DET.BUREAU AND IN PLAIN CLOTHES AT THE TIME. I DID NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT MITCH EXCEPT THAT HE WAS ONE HELLAV FINE OFFICER AND A GREAT FAMILY MAN WHO'S LIFE REVOLVED AROUND HIS FAMILY. JOHN DUKE AND I WERE ASSIGNED TO THE SHOOTING AND WORKED IT. JOHN HENRY ADAMS WAS THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE AND HE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ARRESTED SHORTLY THEREAFTER WHEN HE STOLE A CAR AND WRECKED IT AT DIVISION AND MICHIGAN. MITCH WOULD HAVE TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF OUR, "TOP COPS", HAD FATE NOT INTEVENED, HE WAS A COP THAT SET THE BAR FOR THE REST OF US.
