Deputy Jerry Martinez and Patrolman Glen Michael Huber, of the New Mexico State Police, were shot and killed along with five other people at a mobile home on NM 76 between Chimayo and Espanola.
The officers were shot while serving a restraining order that had been requested by the suspect's girlfriend.
The suspect used a 7.65 mm rifle to commit the murders. The man was apprehended and sentenced to four life sentences.
Deputy Martinez was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Office for six years. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, and parents.
