Deputy Marshal Bobby Thompson was shot and killed after being beaten and having his throat cut by three male subjects.
He was giving the subjects a ride home because of the severe rain when they suddenly attacked him with no warning. When Deputy Marshal Thompson did not return home, a search was initiated. He was found in a secluded area of south Montgomery, and he was able to describe the incident in detail and identify the subjects.
He was transported to Natchitoches Parish Hospital, where he passed away an hour later.
One of the suspects was awaiting trial for burglary, and the other two suspects were juveniles, ages 14 and 15. The shooter, age 18, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life without parole. The juveniles pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Both juveniles have been paroled.
