Investigator Robert Nickerson succumbed to pneumonia that he contracted as a result of being exposed to severely cold weather while guarding a captured still in Oxford, New York.

Investigator Nickerson was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWI and had served with the Alcohol Tax Unit for four years. He was survived by his wife.
