Patrolman Lon Muxlow and Patrolman Isaac Caldwell were shot and killed while attempting to arrest a bar owner for a liquor violation. The man had repeatedly sold illegal bootleg at his parlor on Vilas Street between First and Second Streets. As the officers attempted to arrest him he produced a .38 caliber revolver and shot both officers in the head.

The shooter was arrested and convicted of manslaughter, but was later pardoned.

Patrolman Muxlow is buried in Summit View Cemetery, Gutherie, Oklahoma.

On today, the 110th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army as a member of the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry Regiment during the Spanish-American War.
