Officer William McCuiston was shot and instantly killed when he and another officer attempted to seize an automobile loaded with whiskey and occupied by three men.
The suspects sped away being pursued by the other officer and soon more officers. After a forty mile chase one suspect was shot and killed, one was arrested, and the other suspect escaped.
The suspect who escaped was arrested several weeks later. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The suspect arrested at the scene was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
