Andre "Isiah" Motley

Corrections Officer Andre Motley was shot once in the back of the head and killed when he intervened in a gang dispute. He got caught in a crossfire when members of the two gangs opened fire on each other on Wainwright Street in Newark.

A 22-year-old suspect was later charged and convicted of manslaughter. He was out on bail and failed to show up for his sentencing hearing. On October 30th, 1997, he was apprehended by FBI agents in Newark.

Officer Motley was survived by his daughter, fiancée, parents, and siblings. He was killed one day after his daughter was born. He was assigned to the Essex County Jail Annex.
