Police Officer David Healy was killed in an automobile crash while en route to the South Central Patrol Station at 2:00 a.m.
He had just dropped off a prisoner at the Southeast Jail and was driving on the South Freeway when he swerved to avoid a collision in the roadway. His vehicle struck a highway sign at the MacGregor overpass.
Officer Healy was a U.S. Army Persian Gulf War veteran and had served with the Houston Police Department for two years. He was survived by his mother, father, brother, and fiancée.
